Drones

 This week we have been focusing on report writing, specifically on drones and how they're operated.
By using google drawings or slides, we would make a burger out of shapes based on our planning sheets. Each piece of the burger is seperated into paragraphs, the intro and the conclusion.
Personally, I had fun making this and doing the report writing in general.

My Maths Quiz (Still In Progress!)

Today we learnt about linking slides and making maths quizes. My math quiz is about John Wick (yes, you heard that right) and best pal Kirby (yes, the pink puffball that everybody loves). Linking slides works by using Ctrl + K on a shape and clicking on the slide you want to link. This is helpful if you're getting the answer correct or not. The reason we are doing this is because it is math week. :D

My quiz is about Place Value. We are finishing these next week.

Matariki Brush Ninja Animation

Today I was learning about Brush Ninja and how to use it's tools, thanks to Mrs. Torrie. We made an animation/GIF about Matariki.

I enjoyed creating the animation with my friends, especially trying to make it smooth.

I found it hard to keep an eye on the time to finish early and get on with my Cybersmart work. But I managed to finish my Matariki GIF, which I'm glad about.

My animation shows each Matariki star appear from the dark, as for everyone elses. I'm actually kind of proud.

Next time I would like to spend my time more wisely on my work rather than chatting to my friends.

What we're doing in STEM

STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathmatics. During our first session, we started off  with microbits.

Now that cooking is out of the way, we've moved onto STEM. 
There are these things called Microbits, and you're able to code music, pictures and words into them! Though sometimes while you're trying to code music it doesn't always work.... you might end up with a deafening screech.

So far that's all we've done in STEM,  and I can't wait for what's next :>

What We've Done In Cooking Tech

About two weeks ago we had finished cooking tech, and are currently in STEM. In cooking we made various different foods or drinks, from fruit smoothies to fettuccine. Personally, my favorites were the stir fry, brownies and pudding with custard. 

We made other stuff like Griffins' Shrewsburry buscuits, but they didn't taste as nice from my point of view. 

Also, most of the stuff we had baked or cooked were healthy, so the lessons didn't make much of a problem for our wellbeing (p.s, I thought the vegetables were delicious.)

Once we've cooked the food and eaten it, we take the responsibility to clean it all up. For example, we open the cuboards under the sink to grab the cleaning spray and teatowel. During the clean up session, the four people in each group get a role. Duty, wash, dry and put away. Obviously we wash our dishes so that the "drier" and the "put away person" can do their jobs. 

As for the duty person, I'm pretty sure they observe and make sure everything is done right and is actually clean. Either that or they just help out with whatever.

Moment In Time - Endeavour

Hello! Today in Manaiakalani with Mrs Torrie we had to publish a moment in time about Captain Cook and the Endeavour´s arrival in Gisborne from a perspective of either Captain Cook himself or another sailor on the ship. Over the past few weeks we´ve been learning about Captain Cook and the history behind Gisborne, especially when we went on our heritage trail at Waikanae beach. Chinese in New Zealand (1800's)

During literacy we had to write a poem about the Chinese Immigrants during the late 1800's and early 1900's from either NZ's or the Chinese perspectives. I wrote my (cheesy) poem from the Chinese perspective :D

Whale Rider

Whale Rider is a story about a young girl named Paikea (or, if you read the novel, Kahu) who was born in a traditional maori family who apparently is related to the maori legend, Paikea. She strives her way through stereotypes and attempts to become a leader, but is let down by her koro who traditionally believes that it’s only a male’s job.

A key moment that surprised me was the scene where a pod of whales were washed ashore, which caused the family to be upset and try to put them out of their misery (by saving them, of course.)

I found this scene important because this problem was actually caused by Paikea when she called the whales the previous night. The call wasn’t intended to put them in danger. At some point when everyone was gone, Paikea attempted to ride the last and main whale who ends up being the legendary whale in all of ‘Paikea’s’ stories.

Eventually Paikea returns and the family are happy again. They were worried sick, even her koro who had always disrespected and let her down.

After a bit of hugs and admiring, Paikea becomes leader and the film ends off with the main members going on a waka. The waka they left on was most likely the boat that koro was working on earlier in the story. Over all, the family is happy to be together again and feel good about Paikea being leader.
